Hammersmith and Fulham

We’re bringing a powerful year-long programme to schools across Hammersmith and Fulham – helping young people broaden their horizons, challenge stereotypes, and see what they could become.

Working in partnership with Upstream London, part of Hammersmith and Fulham Council, with the local authority, this place-based programme will connect pupils with volunteers from a wide range of careers, giving them real insight into the world of work and raising aspirations across the borough.

A focused programme with borough-wide impact

10 schools will be selected to receive tailored, hands-on support. Working closely with us, they’ll benefit from one-to-one guidance from the team to plan and deliver their own live event using our vast array of relatable volunteers from the workplace.

All schools across the borough will benefit from special virtual events open to all state schools across the region, and direct access to thousands of inspiring role models from a wide range of careers.

The project also focuses on developing volunteer role models with local connections and teacher training which is open to all.

Together with the local authority, we’ll be focusing on changing young people’s perceptions of the world of work and how they fit into it.

Schools across Hammersmith and Fulham can take part in a range of activities across the course of a year, including:

  • Two large-scale virtual events
Engaging, multi-school sessions featuring volunteers from diverse jobs and sectors – designed to spark curiosity and open up new possibilities.
  • Tailored support for 10 primary schools
Providing individual support to plan and deliver at least one bespoke activity involving volunteers from the world of work.
  • Training sessions for primary school teachers
Focusing on getting the best from our platform, insights from our research to understanding impact, top tips for organising activities and briefing volunteers for age-appropriate delivery.

All with a view to ensuring schools feel confident and equipped to continue delivering activities independently beyond the programme.

Rooted in the local community

As part of the project we’re working to grow our diverse network of local role models, so young people can see people like them, from where they live, succeeding in a wide range of careers.

We already have thousands of volunteer role models in Hammersmith and Fulham area, and over 15,000 volunteers available for virtual activities nationwide. If you would like to be part of this project, wherever you are from, please see the ways to get involved below.

We firmly believe that where a child grows up should never limit what they believe they can achieve – this project will greatly support local schools to make a lasting difference to children’s futures.

“The children were excited to guess the jobs involved in building and maintaining places they recognised like Hammersmith bridge and the station.”
